The Best way to truly immerse one's self in a place's history is to visit the local museum.
As a non-Davao native, I truly benefited from this experience.
It's sad that museums nowadays are largely ignored by the younger generation who would rather gather information about their locality through the Internet. They don't really know what they're missing out.
Being in a museum allows you to have a near tactile (cause you can't really touch any of the exhibits) experience. Just being in the middle of all these historical items will bring you back to a period long gone. You can imagine what it's like to live in an era like through the pictures and the stories a museum lays out for you.
I wish there was a way to bring back interest in museums, maybe make it more interactive so that people of all ages can enjoy it more.
The Davao Museum of History and Ethnography has 2 floors both filled with lots of exhibits showing off Davao City's rich culture and history. The first floor has a chronology of all the things that have happened which brought about the development of the city.
Now the second floor is where it gets eerie. If you're going up there, make sure you have someone along with you because it's filled with mannequins (Maybe I'm just the only one weirded out by mannequins). It depicts these lifelike mannequins in traditional settings and is quite fun to look at.
There's also a display of all the weapons used by the natives in the past and you won't believe the amount of wood work and intricacies put into the ceremonial and actual weapons. It's pretty cool if you like sharp objects.
The museum is not that big but it is enough to house a lot of objects that will give you a better idea of why Davao City is such a great place to live in.
So would we recommend it? Definitely! It's a great way to broaden your mind's horizon.
